Bardon Skills Academy – Player Profile

IMG_oscar
I first met Oscar in 2014 when he was enrolled in my son’s grade 1 class.

Oscar’s father was disabled in a motor bike accident in 2010 and since then Sonya has been the primary carer for Oscar and his 2 sisters while also working in real estate.

When I approached Sonya about Oscar joining a team they jumped at the chance. Oscar had never played any sort of organised sport so in 2015 he came along and joined our u/8’s.

Oscar was like any other player starting off as a beginner – struggled to control the ball and compete with the more experienced kids.

One thing I did notice about him though was he had “fast feet”. Whenever we did agility ladder drills Oscar was always the best.

The reason? Oscar’s previous Saturday sport was tap dancing with his sisters.

Oscar has shown great enthusiasm for the sport and continued training over the summer and playing indoor. He also attended the speed camp at Acceleration and practises whenever he can at home.

As a result Oscar is as fast as anybody in the team which combined with his no fear attitude makes him the key defender in the team.

As you can see from the video Oscar has achieved the Academy target of 25 toe taps in 20 seconds and has a personal best of 28.

He still has some work to do on his ball control but he is training on Tuesday’s with his team and Wednesday’s with the Bardon Skills Academy so he is progressing quickly.

If you would like to join Oscar in practising your skills at the Bardon Skills Academy on Wednesday’s at 5.30 just contact Iain Mackenzie on 0407009533.
