After several years in lower divisions, Latrobe was finally promoted to the Brisbane first grade in 1924, where the club finished fifth out of six teams.
However, 1925 was to be a big year for the club, winning its first major silverware, including the Tristram Shield ‘knockout’ competition, after defeating the Thistle club 4-1 in the final.
The club also won the Charity Cup, defeating that season’s Premiers, Pineapple Rovers, 5-2 in the semi-final, then Dinmore Wanderers 3-1 in the final at the ‘Woolloongabba Cricket Ground’ (at that time the headquarters of soccer football in Brisbane).
The Charity Cup competition commenced in 1894 and was played until 1927, when Latrobe won it for a second time. See the photo of the cup below, now in possession of the Queensland Museum.
