Coaching MiniRoos & Juniors

Here’s what to do next:

1. If this is your first year coaching, start by completing the MiniRoos Certificate
   This free, practical course is run by Football Queensland before each season—often at a local club (sometimes ours!). It gives you confidence, age-appropriate activities, and a nationally recognised certificate. This is optional only but highly recommended.

2. All coaches must hold a valid Blue Card
   If you're new, apply for your Blue Card. If you already have one, renew it here (only if it's close to expiry).
   
   Important: Before you can complete your application, the club must link you on the Blue Card Register. You’ll be stopped during the process until this is done.
   
   To be linked, please email the General Manager with:
   * If you're applying for the first time: your 6–7 digit account number and date of birth
   * If you already hold a valid Blue Card: your card number and date of birth
   * If renewing:
   - Before expiry: email your updated card number
   - After expiry: email your account number and date of birth
   
   Note: If your licence photo is outdated, you’ll need to update it with QLD Transport before you can apply or renew.
   
   Once approved, the club will guide you on when and how to add your details to Squadi.

3. Read the MiniRoos Rules
   Familiarise yourself with the formats and rules for U6-U11 and U12.

4. Explore helpful drills
   Need ideas for sessions? These MiniRoos Kick-Off sessions are a great starting point

5. Pick up your training kit
   You’ll need balls, bibs, and cones. The club provides these for each coach to use during the year. The General Manager will sort this out with you before the season kicks off.

6. Connect with your Age Coordinator
   They’re your go-to for questions, support, and season updates.

New MiniRoos Coach Additions:

To enhance the onboarding experience for new MiniRoos coaches, BLFC offers:

1. WhatsApp Channels: Each age group has a WhatsApp channel where coaches can share experiences, ask questions, and offer support. These are informal but active spaces.

2. Coach Meetups: We aim to organise informal meetups for new and returning coaches early in the season. These sessions help build community and confidence. We successfully ran these in 2025 and plan to continue.

3. Youth Coach Support: Parents coaching MiniRoos can opt to involve Youth Coaches to assist with sessions. These coaches are affordable and can augment your own coaching. Programs are developed each half-season, and registration is coordinated by the Development Manager.
   
   Example programs: 4-week Paid Skills Coaching Programs, Easter and Winter Soccer Camps.
   
   These initiatives are designed to benefit both players and coaches. Youth Coaches involved in these programs are compensated for their time and contribution—reflecting our club’s commitment to nurturing and recognising the next generation of leaders.

Returning MiniRoos Coach Additions:

To enhance the onboarding experience for returning MiniRoos coaches, BLFC offers:

1. WhatsApp Channels: Each age group has a WhatsApp channel where coaches can share experiences, ask questions, and offer support. These are informal but active spaces.

2. Coach Meetups: We aim to organise informal meetups for new and returning coaches early in the season. These sessions help build community and confidence. We successfully ran these in 2025 and plan to continue.

New Juniors Coach Additions:

We assume that new coaches at the Juniors level typically bring prior club experience. If not, support is available via the Juniors VP and Development Coordinator.

To enhance the onboarding experience for new Juniors coaches, BLFC offers:

1. WhatsApp Channels: Each age group has a WhatsApp channel where coaches can share experiences, ask questions, and offer support. These are informal but active spaces.

2. Coach Meetups: We aim to organise informal meetups for new and returning coaches early in the season. These sessions help build community and confidence. We successfully ran these in 2025 and plan to continue.

Returning Juniors Coach Additions:

To enhance the onboarding experience for returning Juniors coaches, BLFC offers:

1. WhatsApp Channels: Each age group has a WhatsApp channel where coaches can share experiences, ask questions, and offer support. These are informal but active spaces.

2. Coach Meetups: We aim to organise informal meetups for new and returning coaches early in the season. These sessions help build community and confidence. We successfully ran these in 2025 and plan to continue.

Coaching Pathways:

Many coaches at various levels continue to build on their skills—and BLFC proudly supports that same spirit of growth. We offer full course refunds for our volunteer coaches to encourage ongoing learning and development.

1. Connect with your Development Coordinator
   They’re your go-to for coaching growth—whether you’re building confidence, refining your approach, or looking to upskill. They can guide you to training opportunities, answer questions, and help you take the next step in your coaching journey. 2. Foundation of Football
   This is a formal coaching qualification for volunteers working with players in the age group U8 and above. BLFC will refund the full course cost for our volunteer coaches. We aim to host these sessions at Bowman Park, and Football Queensland also runs them year-round across Brisbane.

3. C Licence Pathway
   The C Licence Diploma is the next step—a multi-day, nationally recognised qualification ideal for coaches working with U10 and above. BLFC has previously hosted this course and may do so again based on interest. As with other certificates, we’ll fully refund the cost for our volunteer coaches.
