Bowman bonanza for Georges River tradition

On a crisp Queensland winters evening, Bardon Latrobe FC and Georges Rivers FC played out the third game in a series that dates back to the 1970s.

This evening belonged to Bardon Latrobe with a handsome victory but the touring New South Welshmen seemed to care little compared to the excitement that the week had brought them. Three games of football and four theme parks will take it out of you!

After the game there was the traditional trophy presentation and both Vice-President (Juniors) Eamonn McCaffrey and committee member and organiser Phil Cowlishaw thanked both teams for the spirit and camaraderie that they had witnessed throughout the week. There were also thank you’s for the travelling parents from Georges River and the billeting families from Bardon Latrobe.

The evening was drawn to a close with a presentation from Club President Rob Wheeler to two long term retiring Bardon Latrobe volunteers, Doug Burley and Phil Pozzi. Both have given years of service marking out and line marking the fields. Accepting a small gift Phil talked about the importance of supporting grassroots sport and Doug talked fondly of taking his own children to Sydney to face Georges River FC, way back in 1996!
