New grant unlocks future development

Bardon Latrobe FC is pleased to welcome the news that we will receive a $500,000 Federal Government grant.

The cash comes on top of a $250,000 grant announced last year by state Labor MP for Ashgrove, Kate Jones.

BLFC president, Dr Phil Cowlishaw, said that the grant will benefit the whole community, improving facilities heavily by local schools and, in summer, the West Brisbane Cricket Club.

“I’m most pleased that we will be able to provide facilities for our female members,’’ he said.

“We haven’t had an upgrade since the 1990s and we desperately need a makeover.

“We’ve put in a development applications using the $250,000 to build new change rooms, and the $500,000 will be used to complete that work, plus renovate the toilets, referee’s rooms, build an all-access disabled toilet and upgrade the clubhouse.”

There might even be money left over to re-do their kitchen.

LNP candidate for the federal seat of Ryan, Julian Simmonds, said the grant was desperately needed.

“It’s part of the second $30 million round of the Government’s Community Sport Infrastructure Program,’’ he said.

“After being unsuccessful in the first round of funding, the club contacted me to help fight for these federal funds and I was pleased to tour the club myself to see just how desperately these funds are needed.

“This major grant will enable the club to take their facilities to the next level.
