Georges River tour tradition alive and well

Bardon Latrobe hosted the Georges River touring teams in a series of exhibition matches at Bowman Park over the last few days. The matches culminated in the presentation of medals, trophies and the awarding of the sought after shield.

The Georges River travelling contingent exceeded over 110 people and we thank them again for their huge effort in sending so many people north for some football and friendships.

The Georges River touring group were treated to three nights of wonderful food from our canteen extraordinaire Onley.

In terms of the series of games, Georges River girls won their series 3 – 0.

Georges River and Bardon Latrobe girls teams.

Each player from both teams received a medal.

Individual trophies were made to Eden Vann (Bardon Latrobe) and Ash Bleeker (Georges River) as the best and fairest players.

In the boys games the series went the other way. A 3 nil series victory for Bardon Latrobe.

Each player received a medal for participating in the games.

Best and fairest awards went to Diesel Baker (Georges River) and Harry Coulter (Bardon Latrobe)

This long standing touring tradition, which began in 1971 is kept alive through the effort of the organiser’s and parents. Bardon Latrobe acknowledged this years organiser Laura Croxson for her wonderful efforts.

Both teams would like to acknowledge the efforts of the teams coaches. Including Steve and Lauren from Georges River and Gareth from Bardon Latrobe.

There was a suggestion that the games played between the parents (on Sunday and Wednesday) be factored in to decide the series.

Given the series was tied 3 – 3 in games it was decided it would go on overall goal difference. After a count back over the games there was one thing left to do.
