Who decides which team my child plays in?

The club is responsible for all team allocations. Bardon Latrobe FC organises players into teams based on age group, the number of registered players, coach availability, and other factors across the whole club.

Final team decisions rest with the club's Age Group Coordinators and committee.

Can I request a specific team, coach, or for my child to play with a friend?

Yes, you’re welcome to make requests when you register, and we genuinely do our best to take them into account. While we consider every request, we aren’t always able to guarantee a particular team, coach, or friend group.

One important factor is that teams can only be formed once a coach is confirmed. Even when we have a group of children who would love to play together, we can only create that team if a parent volunteers to coach it. Without a coach in place, we simply can’t finalise a team around a friendship group.

Because of this, some requests may not be possible each season. We receive a large number of team and friend‑group preferences, and balancing them fairly, while making sure every child has a place to play, takes careful consideration.

If playing with friends is especially important for your child, the best way to support that is for a parent within the group to volunteer as coach. We provide full guidance and support for new coaches, and it’s a wonderful way to help shape a positive season for the kids.

Are all-girls teams available?

We are proud to support girls' participation in football and do offer all-girls teams where possible. However, the number of all-girls teams we can field each season is limited, and we cannot guarantee a place in one.

The all girls competition rotates between local venues (eg The Gap FC, Newmarket FC) whereas for the U6/7 mixed competition all of those games are played in-house at Bowman Park.

Girls who aren’t placed in an all‑girls team may be allocated to a mixed team. We understand some families prefer an all‑girls environment, and we take that into account wherever possible. When mixed teams are needed, coaches and managers create a supportive, respectful setting where girls are fully included and feel comfortable on and off the field.

Can my child play in a younger age group than their birth year?

No. Players must play in the age group that corresponds to their year of birth. This is consistent with Football Queensland rules and cannot be varied by the club.

Does my child need a coach before a team can be formed?

Yes. Teams are built around a confirmed coach. Until a parent volunteer comes forward to coach a team, we are unable to finalise it.

If you are interested in coaching, please let us know — it is a fantastic way to be involved in your child's season and makes a real difference to the club.

Friend requests cannot be considered unless a volunteer coach is associated/allocated.

What if my child has additional needs or requires support?

We welcome all children at Bardon Latrobe FC and encourage families to let us know if their child has any additional needs, learning differences, or requires extra support. Sharing this information early helps us place your child in a team where they will feel comfortable and confident.
