New coaching team returns familiar faces

Bardon Latrobe Football Club is delighted to announce the Capital Two senior coaching set up for the 2019 campaign. Gilbert Albertson has been appointed as Head Coach after guiding our City 5 side to the Championship in 2018. Gilbert will be assisted by reserve team coach David Bounds who will be returning to coaching at Capital level for the first time since 2016. Continuity with the previous administration will be maintained with the formal appointment of Andrew Girjes as an Assistant Coach (Physio).

Gilbert Albertson has coached in the City structure since 2016 and is currently studying to complete his C license. A self-confessed football tragic he currently assists with the performance analysis department at Brisbane Roar.

Gilbert said he was delighted to be taking on the Capital role after buying into the culture of the football club.

“Over the last two seasons of coaching at Bardon, the biggest thing that sticks out is the camaraderie between all the squads.  There is an ambitious development plan off the field and it is our mission to ensure that the on-field development of Bardon Latrobe’s most senior sides continues.”

Reserve team coach David Bounds had committed to playing Capital football before being approached for a coaching role.

“Having played under Gilbert last year I was keen to support his transition into coaching Capital football in 2019. Since moving away from the Capital set up at Bardon Latrobe in 2016 I have coached City teams and last year a junior side which was extremely rewarding.”

Assistant Coach Andrew Girjes performed the role of physio last season for the Capital squad quickly establishing himself as a popular member of the dressing room. He will continue with his physio duties but the role of Assistant Coach denotes his significant contribution and investment of time in supporting the club.

New Vice-President (Seniors) Ross Parker said that whilst the search for the coaching set up had taken longer than expected he is sure it is the right one.

“I am excited about the potential of this new coaching team and the continuity aspect of them having already been involved at Bardon Latrobe will be welcomed by the players and supporters.”

A pre-season program has been announced with training beginning at 7pm on Tuesday December 4 at Bowman Park, Bardon. Training will then occur on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s until December 20.
